A dietitian is a qualified health professional specialising in nutrition. Dietitians use scientific evidence to provide assessment, education, and treatment for health conditions and nutrition concerns.
In New Zealand, “Dietitian” is a protected title — dietitians must be registered with the Dietitians Board and hold a current practising certificate under the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003.

“Nutritionist” is not a protected title in New Zealand. The term can be used by anyone, with a wide range of training levels.

Some health insurance policies offer cover for consultations with a New Zealand Registered Dietitian. Coverage varies, so it’s best to check directly with your insurer. An invoice/receipt can be provided after your appointment.

Not necessarily. Some people find it helpful, but it’s not required — we can discuss your intake and patterns during your session.

It depends on your goals and the complexity of your needs. Many people start with an initial consult and then book follow-ups every 3–4 weeks (or longer) for ongoing support.
